Redd Kross Have a New Record After 15 Years
The McDonald Brothers, the driving force behind punk legends Redd Kross, stand well over six feet tall and have awkward gaits. Ahead of their new album — Researching the Blues, our today — they’re sitting together in a Hollywood diner. Steven, who plays with hardcore punk supergroup Off! in addition to Redd Kross, spoons cheesy eggs onto a bagel. Jeff, the older, taller of the pair sports sunglasses indoors and picks at a blueberry muffin. “PJ Soles was really the Parker Posey of her time,” he says absentmindedly, referring to the star of the Ramonesploitation flick Rock And Roll High School.

Hardcore Punk Historian Travels Back to the ’80s Southern California Scene in New Book
Next month, Bazillion Points publishing will be releasing WE GOT POWER!: Hardcore Punk Scenes from 1980’s Southern California; a 300 page behemoth of a book featuring all the issues of the fanzine as well as a heap of unpublished photos from the time accompanied by present-day essays by members of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, the Germs and many others.

25 years later, Bikini Kill’s influence hasn’t vanished with the noonday tide. Cited as a major influence on many girl bands to follow, from Sleater-Kinney to The Gossip, Bikini Kill kicked down doors and smashed glass ceilings without apology. They just announced that they’ll be starting their own “Bikini Kill” music label, which will be issuing re-releases of old Bikini Kill materials, and, we’re sure, continued support for girls who just wanna rock out.
